The 蜜汁TV celebrated its Fall 2022 graduates on the morning of Saturday, Dec. 10, at the Freeman Coliseum. More than 500 graduates crossed the stage during the Commencement ceremony, with thousands of loved ones in attendance. Following the 蜜汁TV core value of service, the Fall 2022 graduating class contributed 28,704 community service hours for an economic impact of $859,685.

In keeping with a long tradition dating from the founding of the great European universities in the Middle Ages, the 蜜汁TV celebrates the Mass of the Holy Spirit at the start of each academic year.
One in every four 蜜汁TV students is international; they come to the United States, and to 蜜汁TV, for various reasons. For Lars Willems, a Netherlands national who graduates on Saturday with his MBA (concentration in Finance), the initial connection was through the 蜜汁TV men鈥檚 soccer program. Willems remembers that choosing 蜜汁TV 鈥渏ust felt very good from the beginning.鈥�
When Rocio Montelongo was deciding which college to attend, she knew that having a good support system around her was important. She wanted to be able to build close connections with her professors and classmates, and she believed the smaller class sizes 蜜汁TV offers would afford her that opportunity.
What do you get when you combine theatre arts students, communication arts students and a camera? An award-winning short film produced in under two days by the 蜜汁TV Film Club. The group of 10 students recently won the Broadcast Education Association鈥檚 (BEA) Student Media Club Competition called BEASMC Film 48.
The 蜜汁TV Ethics Bowl team finished in fourth place out of 16 teams in the Texas Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl, a regional competition of the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics (APPE). Their win in the competition qualified them to compete in the APPE鈥檚 national tournament at its annual conference this spring.
College students know that in addition to studying and demonstrating a commitment to learning all they can about their chosen career, extra steps to establish themselves as leaders in their fields are just as important. Attending a conference about leadership is an excellent opportunity to do just that, so when Brittnay Hernandez, a graduate student in accounting, had the opportunity to travel to Pittsburg for the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) Student Leadership Conference, she jumped at it.
Among the 蜜汁TV freshmen who moved to campus in August was Xzavier Perales, a new 蜜汁TV Nursing student who was accompanied by his mom and dad, Roxanne and Eddie Perales, alumni of the 蜜汁TV. For the Perales family, 蜜汁TV isn鈥檛 just an institution of learning. It鈥檚 their second home.
On Thursday, Dec. 8, Dean of Alumni Relations Dr. Lisa McNary will conclude more than 17 years of service to the students and alumni of 蜜汁TV. The two-time alum assumed her role in 2005, and since then, has worked tirelessly to connect alumni to the Mission of the University.

The 2nd annual Holiday Tree Lighting hosted by the Student Government Association (SGA) and the Campus Activities Board (CAB) took place on Nov. 16 in the SEC Ballroom. As the SGA Chief of Staff, not only is this one of my favorite University events of the year, but being able to plan the event was even more fulfilling.

The 蜜汁TV Department of Music is hosting its annual performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 20, in the Diane Bennack Concert Hall.
After receiving a record-breaking 15 nominations for the Lone Star EMMY Chapter Student Production Awards, 蜜汁TVtv celebrated accolades in eight categories. The nominations covered a wide range of categories including Best Newscast, Best Talent and Best Short Film.

The 2022 Fall Graduation Fair was held Thursday, Nov. 10. For the first time since Fall 2019, graduating students had an opportunity to prepare for December Commencement by visiting a variety of tables hosted by departments from across campus.

Election Day is a key part of democracy, and Dr. Ricardo Gonzalez, director of the Ettling Center of Civic Leadership (ECCL), wants students to understand that their voice and their vote matters. To help the 蜜汁TV community cast their ballots, the ECCL provided transportation to the voting polls during early voting (Oct. 25-26 and Nov. 1-2) and on Election Day (Nov. 8).

Every year, the University community comes together to celebrate the lives of loved ones, colleagues and friends who have passed on with special D铆a de los Muertos observations. The two-day holiday spanning Nov. 1-2 is traditionally celebrated in Mexican culture and coincides with the Christian observations of All Saints鈥� Day, honoring the Saints of the Church, and All Souls鈥� Day, a day of prayer and remembering the departed.

St. Anthony Catholic High School (SACHS) hosted its inaugural Yellow Jacket Tee-Off Golf Tournament on Friday, Oct. 28, at the Canyon Springs Gold Club. The event had over 75 participants and volunteers in attendance and successfully raised over $8,000 through generous donations, hole sponsorships, and other charitable contributions.
On Thursday, Oct. 27, the 蜜汁TV community was invited to join millions of people across the world in celebrating Diwali, the Festival of Lights. Diwali, which for some also coincides with harvest and new year celebrations, is a festival of new beginnings and the triumph of good over evil and light over darkness.

On Thursday, Oct. 20, the 蜜汁TV welcomed current Eagle Scouts and alumni to the Nest for a special networking event. Hosted by 蜜汁TV President and Eagle Scout Thomas M. Evans, PhD, the event relaunched the local Eagle Association and included presentations 鈥� led by faculty members and fellow Eagle Scouts, Dr. Adam Watkins and Dr. Michael Frye 鈥� about two innovative 蜜汁TV programs: the Autonomous Vehicles Systems (AVS) Laboratory and 3D Animation and Game Design.

The 蜜汁TV (蜜汁TV) was selected as a 2022 Progress, Accomplishment, Thriving, Hope (PATH) Scholarship recipient through the Ellucian Foundation. The PATH Scholarship program provides grants to higher education institutions to support students facing economic hardship.

Dr. Denise Staudt,鈥痙ean of the Dreeben School of Education (DSE), was named the Ben E. Coody Distinguished Service Award recipient at the 2022 Consortium of State Organizations for Texas Teacher Education (CSOTTE) Teacher Education Conference. This award honors individuals who have given the same level of professional contributions to teacher education in Texas as did Coody. Coody served as the last president of the Texas Association for Student Teaching before the association became the Texas Association of Teacher Educators in 1971.

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, 蜜汁TV Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies and Los Alcaldes de B茅xar, a local nonprofit organization, partnered to host a public history program that honored the early alcaldes (mayors) of San Antonio, pre-1836. The program, hosted Saturday, Oct. 8, included the display of the Los Alcades de B茅xar Project educational travel exhibition and the unveiling of a new forensic portrait.

蜜汁TV, along with St. Mary鈥檚 University, Trinity University and Our Lady of the Lake University, have been awarded an almost $2.5 million grant by the National Science Foundation. The goal of the grant-funded project from the Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation program is to increase the number of historically underrepresented students and those from lower-income backgrounds to obtain bachelor鈥檚 degrees in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.

Grote-Garcia and Dr. Emily Dow are faculty co-advisors of the Club which is made up of 蜜汁TV students and Special Olympic athletes.
Micah Hunter admits it has taken a little while to get used to her new job as a first-year teacher of fourth graders at Woodlawn Academy in the San Antonio Independent School District, but it hasn鈥檛 take her long to reach new heights. Earlier this year, the Texas Directors of Field Experience recognized Hunter as the 2021-2022 Texas Clinical Teacher of the Year.
Starting college can be exciting. It鈥檚 a time to make new friends, go to new events and have new experiences. But it can also be nerve-wracking to live away from home for the first time. For some, it is a challenge to learn how to balance academics, a social life and their own health. According to Dr. Ra煤l Zendejas, 蜜汁TV鈥檚 director of First-Year Engagement (FYE), this is where the FYE Office comes into play.
What factors in general surgery residencies encourage women and minorities to apply to these programs? This is the question 蜜汁TV School of Osteopathic Medicine learners Rachael Holtzman (second year), Deepti Akella (second year) and Jacqueline Danisi (fourth year) set out to research. They examined different factors that influence diverse applicants when applying to general surgery residency programs.
Each year in the fall semester, University Mission and Ministry offers a SALVE Retreat for 蜜汁TV students. The weekend is designed to give participants an opportunity for inner reflection and welcome them to the UMM community. Located at a beautiful site in the Texas Hill Country, SALVE provides the ideal getaway to help retreatants pursue a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and, together with others, spread His joy to the world. SALVE is a Catholic-based retreat but is open to all Christian denominations.
According to Dr. Trish Driskill, associate professor of Accounting in the H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA), their recent networking reception and career fair was 鈥渆xtremely successful.鈥� During the event, hosted by HEBSBA and Career Services in the McCombs Center Rosenberg Sky Room, 164 HEBSBA students had the opportunity to meet with 65 companies.
What sets the 蜜汁TV Master of Athletic Training (MSAT) program apart? According to Dr. Reid Fisher, associate professor and program director in Athletic Training, the answer, is 鈥渟ervice.鈥� Service to the students. Fisher says he finds out where the student is in their journey and helps them take the next leap forward.
蜜汁TV is proud to announce that its Center for Medical Tourism Research (CMTR), under the guidance of CMTR Director Dr. David Vequist, will lead a year-long partnership to conduct a medical tourism training program through an agreement with the Mexican government鈥檚 Secretar铆a de Economia and Secretar铆a de Turismo.
The 蜜汁TV Teacher Education program, housed in the Dreeben School of Education (DSE), has been awarded full seven-year accreditation status by the Association for Advancing Quality in Educator Preparation (AAQEP).

This year, guest speaker Athena Sherman, PhD, PHN, RN, CNE assistant professor at Emory University, will address deliver her lecture titled, LGBTQI+ and Health in Nursing: Creating Environmental and Curricular Change.
If you ask Abigail Velez, Miss San Antonio USA and a senior Communication Arts student at 蜜汁TV, why exercising your right to vote is so important, she will passionately tell you about her childhood growing up in a marginalized community that did not have access to resources other zip codes might have had. As she grew older, she says she realized that this was caused by a lack of representation 鈥� the result, in part, of low voter turnout. Now, it is her mission as a public servant and in her role as Miss San Antonio USA to help those who need the most help learning to make their voices heard, particularly first-time voters.
蜜汁TV recently welcomed Dr. Javier Clavere as the new dean of the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences (CHASS). Dr. Clavere was born in Rosario, Argentina, and was invited to the United States on a full scholarship to attend Brigham Young University. His graduate studies followed at the College-Conservatory of Music of the University of Cincinnati. Most recently, he served as chairman of the Department of Music at Berea College in Kentucky.
Dr. Leslie Martinez, 蜜汁TV associate professor of Psychology, teaches a 鈥渇irst-year engagement鈥� course, which aims to promote the success of first-year students at the University. In honor of National HSIs week and in preparation of an upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month event at the University, Dr. Martinez tasked students in the class with a special assignment.
Yesenia Anaya, a second-year learner at the 蜜汁TV School of Osteopathic Medicine (蜜汁TVSOM), was one of the many students who participated in the third session of the Amigos en Medicina clinic on Saturday, Sept. 17. 蜜汁TVSOM, along with the 蜜汁TV School of Physical Therapy (SoPT), Ortho-SA and CHRISTUS Health, provide free hip and knee arthritis evaluations for Southside residents in San Antonio at each Amigos en Medicina clinic.
In the Spring 2022 semester, Dr. Deepti Kharod, assistant professor of Education in the Dreeben School of Education (DSE), along with students from 蜜汁TV's chapter of Kappa Delta Pi (KDP), an international education honor society, participated in a unique book drive focused on cultural representation for students at Northside ISD's Dr. Martha Mead Elementary School. Because of this initiative, the 蜜汁TV Alpha Kappa Omega (AKO) chapter, was recently awarded Kappa Delta Pi's 2022 Chapter Programming Award for Community Service.

A new member of the 蜜汁TV community, Fr. Hector Kalaluka, OMI now serves as 蜜汁TV鈥檚 lead Catholic Chaplain, presiding at Mass, sacramental celebrations and other special events hosted by 蜜汁TV鈥檚 Office of Mission and Ministry. 蜜汁TV has been awarded a nearly half million-dollar grant to the Feik School of Pharmacy for research on cardiovascular disease. The $469,428 grant will be disbursed over the course of four years and is funded through the National Institute of General Medical Sciences of the National Institutes of Health via the Support for Research Excellence Program.
Dr. Grace Gutierrez, visiting professor of Graduate Studies in the Dreeben School of Education, has been named a fellow in the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) Leadership Academy/La Academia de Liderazgo for the 2022-2023 academic year.
鈥淏eing at the clinics, working hard every single day, feeling the adrenaline in my body, that was extremely awesome.鈥� That is how Gustavo Herrera Garcia, a 蜜汁TV Nutrition major, recalls the mission trip he and 41 other faculty, staff and students took to Oaxaca, Mexico, from Sept. 3-11. The group, made up of community members from the Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions, the Feik School of Pharmacy, the Ettling Center for Civic Leadership and Sustainability, the Rosenberg School of Optometry (RSO), the School of Physical Therapy (SoPT), Community Health and Nutrition, traveled to Oaxaca to provide medical services to the city鈥檚 residents.

蜜汁TV is one of the best universities in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by the 鈥淕reat Colleges to Work For鈥� program. This marks the 14th year in a row that 蜜汁TV has been recognized with this designation and the 13th year, also consecutively, that the University is named to the publication鈥檚 Honor Roll, which recognizes institutions who received top marks in multiple categories. Only 42 institutions nationwide made the Honor Roll.
Dr. Gonzalo Parra, assistant professor of Cyber Security Systems in the School of Mathematics, Science and Engineering, received $95,000 as part of a grant from the National Science Foundation for the project Collaborative Research: CISE-MSI: Active and Passive Internet Measurements for Inferring IoT Maliciousness at Scale, which focuses on cybersecurity. Parra is collaborating with UTSA and the San Diego State University Foundation (SDSU) on the project. The total grant provided the trio of Hispanic-Serving Institutions with $600,000.
蜜汁TV Behavioral Health Services hosted the second annual Let鈥檚 Taco-bout Mental Health fair on Thursday, Sept. 8. The event allowed more than 430 students, faculty and staff to take a moment to focus on their own mental health, have fun and enjoy tacos from the Mi Frijoles taco truck.
The 蜜汁TV Office of Student Success: Academic Support Services hosted the inaugural session of 蜜汁TV鈥檚 new First-Generation Speaker Series, supported by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) Accelerating Student Success Grant. Dr. Cynthia Mosqueda, faculty coordinator for the First Year Experience Program at El Camino College in Torrance, California, served as the featured speaker for the virtual event on Friday, Sept. 9.
Alicia Caballero is soon to be a 蜜汁TV alumna twice over, having earned a bachelor鈥檚 degree in 2011 and currently in her final semester as an MBA student with the H-E-B School of Business and Administration. In the classroom, Caballero has stood out as a leader, being described as 鈥渁 first-rate student and trusted leader in our academic community鈥� by her former professor Dr. Trey Guinn, program director of Communication Arts in the School of Media and Design.

蜜汁TV is pleased to announce that Dr. Brian Scislo has joined the 蜜汁TV family as the new Senior Director of Development for Special Projects. Scislo brings a wealth of experience with 18 years in similar administrative positions, most recently at the University of Tulsa where he worked in several areas including Development, External Relations, Facilities and more.
Assistant Professor of Management Information Systems Dr. Yi Liu, in the 蜜汁TV H-E-B School of Business and Administration, has published his manuscript 鈥淐onnecting Perceived Effectiveness of App Evolution to App Engagement: A Technology Identity Perspective鈥� in Information Technology and People (ITP). Liu worked with co-authors Dr. Xinlin Tang (Florida State University), Peigong Li (Shanghai Lixin University of Accounting and Finance), and Xuan Wang, (University of Texas Rio Grande Valley) on the paper.
蜜汁TV and Texas Lutheran University (TLU) announced they have entered into a series of memorandums of understanding (MOU) as part of 蜜汁TV鈥檚 Health Professions Pathway. The MOUs pave the way for TLU students to further their education in four different areas of health professions by reserving interview slots for qualified students to have an opportunity to attend the 蜜汁TV School of Osteopathic Medicine, the Feik School of Pharmacy, the Rosenberg School of Optometry, and the 蜜汁TV School of Physical Therapy.
On Thursday, Sept. 1, the St. Anthony Catholic High School (SACHS) community proudly welcomed Auxiliary Bishop Gary Janak to campus. In 2021, Pope Francis named Father Gary Janak as the new auxiliary bishop of San Antonio. This was Bishop Gary鈥檚 first time visiting SACHS, where he celebrated mass and spoke to students on patience, trusting God and having courage in life.
With my senior year before me, I can say that choosing to attend the 蜜汁TV has greatly impacted my life, and I have learned a lot these past three years. One of my main reasons for attending 蜜汁TV is that it emphasizes its Catholic faith as the foundation of the school鈥檚 history. 蜜汁TV has helped me grow deeper in my faith because the Catholic identity is prominent throughout campus and participation in church celebrations is encouraged.
The 蜜汁TV Liza and Jack Lewis Center of the Americas is hosting the official kickoff event for 鈥淲elcoming Week 2022: We Belong in San Antonio鈥� at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 8, in the Student Engagement Center (SEC) Ballroom on the Broadway campus. 蜜汁TV is proud to welcome Patricia Ramirez as the new Director of Brainpower Connection Programs. Ramirez brings more than two decades of Catholic school experience after spending 25 years at St. Anthony Catholic School where she rose from teacher to principal at the historic elementary school.
Ambassador Dr. James F. Creagan, who served under nine U.S. Presidents in a diplomatic career that spanned three decades, returns to 蜜汁TV for the Fall 2022 semester as Ambassador in Residence, professor of Political Science and fellow at the Liza and Jack Lewis Center of the Americas.
The 蜜汁TV H-E-B School of Business and Administration (HEBSBA) is excited to announce the 2022 Startup Challenge and Business Opportunity Assessment Certificate, sponsored by The Beckendorf Family Center for Innovation and Global Entrepreneurship. The challenge is open to all 蜜汁TV students 鈥� both undergraduate and graduate 鈥� regardless of major or program of study, as well as some faculty and staff. Registration is now open and closes on Sept. 9.
Dr. Debora Kaliski, associate professor in the 蜜汁TV School of Physical Therapy, recently completed the Anatomy Training Program (ATP), a program co-sponsored by the American Association for Anatomy (AAA) and The Anatomical Society. Kaliski completed the two-year fellowship at the 蜜汁TV School of Osteopathic Medicine (蜜汁TVSOM) and capped the program with a two-week residency at the University of Cambridge in England.
The 蜜汁TV Ila Faye Miller School of Nursing and Health Professions honored its Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) August graduates at a pinning ceremony in Our Lady鈥檚 Chapel on Saturday, Aug. 20. The pinning ceremony celebrates nursing graduates and recognizes their entry into the profession of nursing.
